Florida State returns to host the University of Memphis on Saturday, September 14 at noon at Doak Campbell Stadium (55,107). The Seminoles (0-2, 0-2 ACC) are coming off the week still looking for their first win of the season. The Tigers (2-0, 0-0 AAC) remain undefeated this season with home wins over North Alabama and the Trojans. The game between the two teams will be televised by ESPN at noon. The Seminoles will play their first non-conference game in 2024, the first time since 2003 (excluding 2020) that they will have a two-game opener in ACC play. Florida State is the only team in the nation to open conference play with a two-game sweep and the only team in a P4 conference to open conference play with two P4 opponents. Of the 48 P4 teams that played a P4 opponent in the first or second game, 30 played an FCS opponent in the second game. Florida State and Memphis are meeting for the first time since 1990.
FSU is led by head coach Mike Norvell (69-34 in 9th season, FSU 31-19 in 5th season). Norvell served as the head coach at Memphis before coming to Tallahassee under head coach Ryan Silverfield (33-19 in 5 seasons, all at Memphis). Silverfield worked for Norwell in Memphis and was almost part of his initial staff at Florida State before taking the Tigers head coaching job.
Norvell's career record as a head coach is 9-2 (.818) after the offseason opener. Including the season opener, off-Saturday games and bowl games, his team has more than seven days to prepare and is 27-11 (.711). Noles247 will provide updates throughout the game. Season 2
- FSU's defense forced a 3-and-out, but the Seminoles' fumble was recovered by the Tigers on a short field. There were 1 minute and 59 seconds left in the first half.
Officials ruled the ball bounced off FSU punter LeWayne McCoy and the Tigers recovered it. They will kick the ball from the 28 yard line.
- FSU gained 15 yards on eight plays with a 54-yard punt return to Ryan Fitzgerald. FSU trailed 10-3 with 2:26 left in the first half.
- Memphis went downfield for fourth-and-2, but missed the ball when it landed. Due to incomplete revision rules, revenue declined. FSU takes over at halfback. -Safety Edwin Joseph calls for punt coverage. He was disqualified. Memphis just started 30.
- A pair of turnovers (Malik Benson and Darion Williamson) led to six FSU drives for 15 yards. FSU gave the ball to the Tigers.
- Memphis went on an 8-play, 65-yard drive in 4 minutes, 53 seconds, capped by a 6-yard pass from quarterback Seth Hennigan to running back Greg Desrosier Jr. FSU trailed 10-0 with 16 seconds left. - FSU trailed 3-0 early in the second quarter.
