Sean "Diddy" Combs has been arrested in New York, his lawyer tells CNN

 

Combs was arrested Monday night at a Manhattan hotel and is being processed, sources said. The charges are unclear at this time. "We are disappointed by the United States Attorney's decision to unfairly prosecute Mr. Combs," Combs' attorney Mark Agnifilo told CNN.

Combs' attorney said the musician has been cooperating with the investigation and moved to New York last week to await charges. His team insist he is innocent and say he has "nothing to hide".

Earlier this year, Combs became the target of a months-long sex-trafficking investigation by Homeland Security Investigations, which included massive raids on the musician's homes in Los Angeles and Miami in March.

Ten lawsuits have been filed against Combs since November, nine of which directly accuse him of sexual assault. As CNN previously reported, several accusers have met with federal investigators for questioning as part of the broader investigation. CNN exclusively reported in May that federal investigators were preparing to subpoena Combs' accusers to testify before a federal grand jury, a major escalation in a government probe that indicated the Justice Department may be looking to indict the rapper and businessman.

Combs has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing as alleged in various lawsuits. However, Combs issued a public apology after CNN only released surveillance video earlier this year of Combs brutally assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassandra Vento at a Los Angeles hotel in March 2016.
