Microsoft is investigating issues with Microsoft 365 and Teams, and some users are reporting to DownDetector that they are experiencing issues using services like Exchange and Outlook.

Based on user reports on social media, the issue appears to be affecting Microsoft users worldwide. “We are aware of recent changes that we believe have impacted. We have begun rolling back the changes and are investigating what additional steps are needed to resolve this issue,” Microsoft added in a subsequent statement.

Microsoft 365 is a subscription-based application that offers services like Word and Excel, as well as cloud storage, while Teams is primarily used for video calls and online chat in the workplace. While DownDetector, an online service that tracks technology outages, had only received a few dozen reports of 365 issues as of Monday morning, users posted on social media that they were having problems using Microsoft services.

This is a recurring issue affecting Microsoft 365 customers worldwide. Microsoft is aware of the issue and is investigating,” the University of Ireland’s IT group said. Monday’s Microsoft 365 problems follow a massive outage in July, when banks, airlines, healthcare systems and other industries that rely on the service were hit by technical issues caused by global cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike.

The outage canceled thousands of flights and train connections around the world and sparked a series of lawsuits, including Delta Air Lines, which sued CrowdStrike and Microsoft for the outage, which rendered the company’s internal systems unusable and caused chaos.

Why is Outlook down?

Microsoft said it had identified “a recent change that we believe has had an impact,” but did not elaborate or specify why. “We have begun reversing these changes and are investigating what further steps are needed to resolve this issue,” the company said on social media platform X on Monday morning. Users have also reported that Outlook is down. “After having issues all morning, Exchange Online, Teams, Outlook, none of these services are working as expected and I can’t see quarantined emails,” wrote one user on X.

We're investigating an issue impacting users attempting to access Exchange Online or functionality within Microsoft Teams calendar. For more information, please refer to MO941162 in the admin center.
