GENESEE TWP, MI — A Friday morning crash on East Carpenter Road has left a 25-year-old mother dead and her infant child hospitalized, local authorities confirmed.
The single-vehicle accident occurred shortly before 6:15 a.m. on Friday, May 22, on the stretch of East Carpenter Road between North Center and North Genesee roads. According to Genesee Township Police Lt. Matthew Allen, the woman was driving when her vehicle veered off the road, crashed into an embankment, and caught fire.
Casualties and Current Status
While several bystanders rushed to the scene to pull the occupants from the burning vehicle, the driver succumbed to her injuries.
- The Driver: The 25-year-old woman, whose identity is being withheld pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene.
- The Infant: The child, who is under a year old, was rescued from the wreckage and transported to Hurley Medical Center in Flint. Officials report the baby is currently in stable condition.
